Maintaining and building a good fleet requires upgrading and repowering. Dann Marine has recently put their 100 by 32-ft tug Gulf Coast back into service following a major refit that included swapping out a pair of a competitor's 1200 HP engines in favour of a pair of 1600 HP Cummins QSK50 engines. The repower involved modifications to the engine foundations and cooling system all of which was carried out at the Lyon Shipyard in Norfolk, Va. The shipyard also has an extensive history having been founded in 1928 by George C. Lyon.
The ABS load-lined model bow tug is fitted with an Intercon DD200 towing winch loaded with 2000 ft of 2-inch cable and 305 ft of 1.5-inch wire. It carries tanks for 81,385 US gallons of fuel and 5,268 gallons of potable water.
