Taiwan's LNG imports up 29% in Sept, 2010

Taiwan, the third-biggest importer of liquefied natural gas in Asia, imported 1.08 million tons of liquefied natural gas in September, up 29% from 843,311 tons a year earlier, China Knowledge reports citing data from Taiwan's Bureau of Energy.

In September, LNG imports volume fell 4.4% from August, when the island's LNG imports were 1.13 million tons.

In the first nine months, Taiwan imported 8.37 million tons of LNG, 29% more than a year ago.

The bureau also announced that Taiwan's crude oil imports in September remained flat with the same month of last year at 21.78 million barrels after an accident at Formosa Petrochemical Corp's sole refining complex in Mailiao in southern Taiwan, according to an earlier report from China Knowledge.

Crude oil imports increased 9.7% month on month, said the Bureau.
