In the reporting period ending Oct. 30, 2010, transshipment of outbound goods rose by 14.5%, fueled largely by a 124.9-percent upsurge in pulp volume (98,500 tons), a 152.2-percent jump in handling of lumber (69,000 tons) and paper exports that rose 4.3% to 680,000 tons.
Ten-month volume of inbound goods increased by 4.2% (1,2m tons) tons, including kaolin - by 172.6%, chemicals - by 52.8%. Imports of pulp surged by 125% to 274,000 tons.
Container traffic at Port of Oulu in January-October 2010 increased by 5.5% to 26,000 TEUs, handling Ro-Ro cargo - by 51.5% to 1,768 units. In contrast, the number of handled containers of SECU (Stora Enso Cargo Unit) dropped by 6.2% to 13,400 units.
Port of Oulu is located in the north-western Finland, near the Gulf of Bothnia of the Baltic Sea. The Oulu berths are based in the ports of Oritkari, Nuottasaari, Vihreyasaari and Toppila. Annual volume of freight flows passing via the port’s berths reaches more than 3 million tons of cargo. The main export products is paper as well as timber. Imports are mainly represented by petroleum products and raw materials for local forest industry.
