Big Port of St.Pb’s throughput up 15.3% in Jan-Oct, to 48.3m tons

Ten-month freight volume handled by the Big Port of St. Petersburg rose by 15.3% as compared with the same period last year to 48.3 million tons, PortNews reports citing the Association of Sea Commercial Ports’ statistics.

The Port of St. Petersburg is located on the islands of the delta of the Neva river, in the Neva Bay, the eastern tip of the Gulf of Finland. The Big Port of St. Petersburg territory includes the Neva River delta and the Neva Bay, Kronstadt and dam structures. The Port of St. Petersburg’s fleet of Icebreakers provides pilotage service for merchant ships during winter navigation. Currently, about 30 stevedore companies operate at the port. Last year’s throughput of the port totaled 50.4 million tons. There were 21,619 calls at the port (10,786 arrivals and 10,833 departures).
