Between 1990 and 2008, transport emissions increased 34 per cent while emissions from the land-based industry decreased 14 per cent. Emissions from international aviation and shipping increased 110 per cent and 56 per cent, respectively. In 2008 aviation and shipping accounted for 7 per cent of total CO2 emissions 24 per cent of transport emissions. In 1990, these figures were 3.8 per cent and 18 per cent, respectively.
