A maritime security alert has been issued after gunmen attacked an oil facility run by Exxon Mobil off the coast of Akwa Ibom in the Niger Delta in the morning hours of 15 November.
It is also reported that about eight Nigerian oil workers were taken hostage during the attack.
The incident constitutes the second of its kind in as many weeks off Akwa Ibom. A week ago MEND attacked a rig operated by Afren, kidnapping seven foreign nationals.
Vessel operators are reminded to exercise caution in the area.
