NCSP's throughput down 3.9%, containers volume soars

Freight flows handled by the Group Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP) in January-October 2010 reached 69,670,500 tons, a 3.9 percent decline versus the last year’s figures. Container trade in the reporting period nearly doubled from Jan-Oct. 2009, to 373,000 TEUs, the company’s press service reported citing NCSP’s consolidated financial statements.

In the ten recent months, the liquid bulk throughput dropped 4.2 percent to 46,416 million tons, including 35,194,000 tons of crude oil (-4.7%), 10.681 million tons of petroleum products (-1.4%) , 423.7 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers (-2.8%), 116.9 thousand tons of edible oil (-49.6%).

The bulked cargo throughput showed a 14.6 percent drop to 10,623,000 tons. However, there was a strong result in the segment of chemical fertilizers and raw sugar: transshipment of fertilizer rose as compared with Jan-Oct, 2009 by 29.9% to 1,726,000 tons, raw sugar volume increased by 20.8% to 1,362,000 tons.

The total volume of general cargo handled by the stevedore in the reporting period shrank by 2.3% y-o-y, to 8,969,000 tons, ferrous metals throughput was down 10.1%, to 6.698 million tons.
