"As of now, I can say for sure that the first giant tanker, which will be built in the city of Bolshoi Kamen, will have a capacity 118,000-120,000 tons", he said in an interview with ITAR-TASS news agency and South Korean newspaper JoongAng-Ilbo in connection with a recent visit to the Republic of Korea of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The shipyard was named Zvezda-DSME, its founders are Russian Far East Shipbuilding and Repair Center and the S.Korean shipbuilding company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co.
"The super shipyard will be building giant tankers and ships, ice-class LNG carriers, which can be operated both in the Arctic seas, and in the Pacific Ocean. I believe that our joint venture will find its shipbuilding market niche. Zvezda-DSME will be launching vessels with displacement of some 250,000 tons, a length of 350 meters and a beam of 60 meters" Mr. Filchenok was quoted as saying.
The basis of the shipyard will become a dry dock with length of 450 meters and a width of 100 meters, said Yuri Filchenok. Its territory will encompass half of the Bay of Bolshoi Kamen. So far, there have already been conducted drilling operations to determine the composition of the soil where the new JV shops will be erected. There are several objects to be bought out from private owners and individuals that remain on the construction site.
