Klaipeda Port cargo turnover increased by 12.7% in 10 months

Klaipeda Port handled 25.3 million tons of marine cargo in ten month of this year, the total cargo handling increase made up 12.7% if to compare with the corresponding period of the previous year. According to cargo handling turnover of Klaipeda Port still remains ahead of neighboring Riga and Ventspils Ports and gets behind only to Joined Tallinn Port.
In terms of cargo groups the handling of general cargo were handling volumes reached up to 8.016 million tons (31.6% of general port handling) increased mostly (29.1%). Dry and bulk cargo handling increased by 25.7%, volumes of this cargo group were 9.622 million tons (38%). The handling of liquefied cargo decreased by 10.7%, in total – 7.722 million tons (30.4%) were handled, informed BC marketing department of the port.
In January – October of this year 5 597 ships, i.e. less by 8.9% or by 545 ships, comparing to the corresponding period of the previous year, called Klaipeda Port. The number of passengers was 285,7 thousand, i.e. more by 17.6% comparing with the corresponding period of 2009.
Klaipeda Port has further maintained its position of the leading Port in containerized cargo handling. 241284 TEU, i.e. more by 19% comparing to the corresponding period of 2009 (increase made 38515 TEU).
