If last year’s third quarter reports from the container shipping lines were much of a disappointment with red figures and shrinking volumes the Q3-reports for 2010 are quite the opposite. Due to an improved global trade the combined operating incomes of the container shipping lines hit record figures. The operators are estimated to have reached USD 6 billion in the third quarter, compared to operating losses totalling at about USD 4 billion in the corresponding quarter last year, Alphaliner reports.
