In March, the Kozmino Oil Terminal handled 13 crude carriers, loaded 13 m tons of ESPO export oil, in Jan-Feb.- 12 and 11 tankers (1,2m, 1,1m tons accordingly).
23% of all crude oil shipped from Kozmino were exported to Thailand, 15% - to South Korea, 15% - to the USA, 16% - Philippines and 28% - to Japan.
Last year, Japan became the largest importer of ESPO oil. In March 4 tankers, each laden with 100,000 tons of ESPO Crude, transported the cargo to Japan’s southern ports. The Esther Spirit left Kozmino terminal on the night of March 31.
In April of Kozmino plans to ship 1,3 million tons of crude oil to the Asia-Pacific region. The first tanker, the Bay of America (owner PRISCO), has already being loaded and soon will be bound for the United States.
Spetsmornefteport Kozmino LLC (Special Oil Port of Kozmino, Primorsky Territory), a subsidiary of Transneft JSC, started operating in late 2009. Kozmino Oil Terminal is the terminus of the ESPO Oil Pipeline (Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean). While the ESPO project is under construction the crude oil is being delivered to the terminal by the railroad.
Kozmino Oil Terminal annual capacity is 15 million tons of oil a year, expandable to 30m t/y. The first export oil cargo was shipped from the terminal on Dec. 28, 2009. Russian oil exports through Kozmino in 2010 totaled 15.34 million tons. The main consumers of the commodity are the Asia-Pacific countries.
