The Indian Navy made a serious capture in the middle of March, when the warship Kalpeni and the missile corvette Khurki together intercepted the Mozambique flagged fishing vessel Vega in the Indian Ocean some 600 nautical miles west of India. It came to an exchange of fire after which the Vega 5 was abandoned by the pirates and their hostages, which were the original crew. All told, the Kalpeni rescued the13 crew members from Vega 5 plus 61 Somalia pirates in the action. The number of pirates caught by the Indian Navy is now cup at almost 100 as another 43 were captured in the period from January 28 to February 5.
