Due to extremely heavy ice conditions in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland the nuclear-powered icebreaker Vaigach owned by Atomflot (RosAtom Corp.) will continue providing icebreaker assistance until April 10, 2011, the Atomflot press service said. Atomflot and Rosmorport’s St. Petersburge branch have extended the contract for the icebreaker services.
The Vaigach has been operating in the Baltic Sea since Feb. 26, 2011. Initially, the contract signed for the icebreaker services was in effect until March 16, but due to ice-bound conditions it was extended until the end of March and later - until April 5th.
The icebreaker provides its services in accordance with the requests of the Big Port St. Petersburg’s Ice Operations HQ.
