Helsinki port’s cargo volume grows 9% to 2,4m tons

Cargo throughput of the port of Helsinki (Finland) in the first quarter of 2011 increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2010, to 2,4 million tons, the Helsinki Port Authority said.

In Jan-March, exports rose by 6% to 1.2 million tons, imports increased by 11% and totaled 1.2 million tons. The three-month volume of passenger traffic grew by 6% to 2 million people.

Port of Helsinki is one of the largest ports in Finland. In 2010 freight volume handled at the port of Helsinki grew by 12% to 10,921,000 tons, container traffic - by 11% to 399,903 TEUs, Ro-Ro cargo volume amounted to 488,772 units (+13%).
