Turkish ship evacuates wounded from Libya

An official says a Turkish ship evacuating hundreds of wounded from Libya is close to the country's Aegean coast and a field hospital is ready to provide emergency treatment, The Associated Press reports.

Health Minister Recep Akdag says the evacuation reflects Turkey's efforts to help the Libyan people. He spoke Tuesday at the Aegean port town of Cesme where the field hospital has been set up.

The prime minister's office says the ferry boat, Ankara, is carrying 321 wounded and 108 other Libyans accompanying them.

It was not clear who the wounded were but they were coming from Misrata and Benghazi.

The boat which carried medical supplies to Libya, is also returning with 29 foreigners, including those from Greece, Ukraine, Britain, Uzbekistan, Germany and Finland, and dozens of Turks.
