Throughput of Ukraine’s ports in Q1, 2011 up 2.4% to 27,294,000 tons

Freight volume handled at 18 ports of Ukraine in January-March 2011increased by 2.4% compared with the same period of 2010, to 27,294,000 tons, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure said.

In the reporting period transshipment of transit cargoes at the country’s seaports totaled 10,119,000 tons (+22.5%).  

According to the first quarter results the leaders are Berdyansk port (growth as much as 2.2 times), Port of Sevastopol - (a 52.7-percent gain), Port of Nikolaev (+19.4%). The leading ports in handling transit cargoes: the same Port of Berdyansk (a fivefold surge), Port of Kerch (+128.2%), Yuzhny Port (+41%).

The Ukrainian ports specialize in handling primarily ore, grain, metals, coal, crude oil, petroleum products and containers.
