The Hanjin Germany and Hanjin Italy, each of which has a carrying capacity of 10,100 20-foot equivalent units, began 12-year time charters following their delivery by Korea's Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
"These vessels are currently the largest in operation in the Danaos fleet and the first ones to be financed under its new Comprehensive Financing Plan," the Athens-based company said.
Danaos last week announced it had secured fresh funding of $818 million that finalized its financial restructuring.
The new ships expand Danaos' fleet to 53 vessels with an aggregate capacity of 243,529 TEUs, making it one of the world's biggest charter shipowners.
Danaos has a further 12 ships of 119,150 TEUs on order with scheduled deliveries up to 2012.
