TransContainer’s box volume up 23.5% in Q1, to 313,200 TEUs

The volume of containers moved by TransContainer in January-March, 2011 increased by 23.5% from the same period of 2010, to 313,200 TEUs, the company's press service said. The Q1 results were generated largely by imports volume carried by the operator, which soared 63.3% to 51,500 TEUs, the company said.

In first-quarter container volume carried by the operator on domestic services rose by 13.9% to 179,100 TEUs. The share of international traffic in total container throughput of the company in the reporting period increased by 42.8% from 38% a year earlier.

TransContainer, a subsidiary of Russian Railways (RZD), is a leading intermodal container transportation and integrated logistics solutions company in Russia. The operator has a fleet of 25,500 flatcars, 60ths containers, more than 840 trucks, tractor-trailers., etc. TransContainer operates its own rail terminals network at 46 Russian railway stations from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok and one terminal in Slovakia.
