Pirates told Reuters Wednesday they had received a multi-million-dollar ransom payment. The payment was not verified by Beluga. The pirates said they had left the ship and seven crew members after being paid.
At least one crewmember died during a botched rescue attempt by the Seychelles Coast Guard on Jan. 26. Four others tried to escape, according to reports from Beluga Chartering. Two of the four were eventually rescued, but the others have not been found.
According to Reuters, the ship was preparing to sail on Wednesday, with its engines restarted and two tugs standing by.
