Odessa port’s Q1 cargo volume down 1.4% to 6,8m tons

Cargo throughput of Ukraine-based SE Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP,) in January-March 2011 amounted to 6,804,300 tons, a 1.4 percent drop from Q1, 2010, the company’s press office said.

During the reporting period the port handled 3,418,100 tons of dry cargo (-6.65%) and 3,386,200 tons of liquid bulk (+4,5%). There was an increase in the three-month volume of ore, citrus, containers, crude oil and lube oils.

State-owned Odessa Commercial Sea Port is a largest port of the Black Sea-Azov basin. The port encompasses 14 ha, 9-km waterfront and 54 berths to accommodate 13meter draft vessels. Port of Odessa enables trade flow in the amount of over 14m tons of dry cargo and 14m tons of petroleum products a year. In 2010, cargo throughput of OCSP shrank by 11.8% year-over-year to 24,7 million tons and container traffic totaled 351,600 TEUs.
