MSC to rise rates from Far East to India, Canada in May

Mediterranean Shipping Company plans to apply a general rate increase on the Far East-Asia-Indian subcontinent trade lane as well as to the Far East-Asia-Canada lane, Journal of Commerce reports.

Starting May 1, the proposed increase for the Indian subcontinent lane will be $150 per 20-foot equivalent unit and $300 per 40-foot equivalent unit.

The Geneva-based carrier will also increase rates by $480 per TEU and $600 per FEU on cargo shipped from the Far East-Asia to Canada, as of May 1.

In related news, Hapag-Lloyd announced a rate increase on shipments moving from East Asia (excluding Japan) and Oceania to ports in the Indian subcontinent. Effective April 15, the increase is $100 per TEU.
