Three carriers to start Taiwan-India service

Evergreen Line, Wan Hai Line and Interasia Lines will launch a new weekly Taiwan-Madras Trunk service starting April 29 from the port of Taichung in Taiwan.

Evergreen Line will deploy one ship on the new TMT service, marking the first time it has called at a port in East India. Wan Hai will deploy two vessels on the loop and Interasia Lines will supply one ship of 1,300 20-foot-equivalent units.

The three Asian carriers are starting the new service to meet the demand for intra-Asia trade with India, which is experiencing an “annual economic growth rate of 8 to 9 percent with the cargo volume increasing from the Far East to India each year," said a spokesperson for the three carriers. "As the main gate for East India, Chennai has a bright future."
The service will start with the sailing of Interasia Lines' vessel, the Karin Schulte, from Taichung.

The 28-day rotations will be: Taichung, Keelung, Hong Kong, Hong Kong (MID stream), Nansha, Shekou, Port Klang, Chennai, Penang, Port Klang, Singapore, Yantian, Hong Kong and back to Taichung.
