The new generation gondolas (model 12-196-010) feature longer life and load capacity of 75 tons. The deal will help optimize the cost of repair and maintenance of rolling stock, and boost the development of a rail freight business division of UCL Holding, the Group said.
Dutch-registered Universal Cargo Logistics Holding (UCL Holding) is an international transportation holding comprising stevedoring companies of Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg and Universal Handling Complex in the North-West Russia; Tuapse and Taganrog ports in the South of the country; Volga Shipping, North-West Shipping and Western Shipping companies; as well as a number of shipbuilding, shipping and logistics assets.The Group acquired 20,000 gondolas auctioned off by Russian Railways in July and September last year.
LLC Independent Transport Company (ITC) provides rail freight service in Russia and on international routes. The company operates a fleet of rolling stock of about 27,000 rail cars, of which 20,000 gondolas the company leases from the UCL Holding. In 2010, ITC transported more than 54.5 million tons of cargo, its net income under RAS amounted to RUB 832 million. On April 9, 2011 UCL Holding Group reached an agreement to acquire 100% equity stake worth $325m in LLC ITC from Novolipetsk Steel.
