China-based Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has won a $418m contract to construct two harsh environment jack-up drilling rigs for Oslo-listed Prospector Offshore Drilling, Seatrade Asia online reports. The jack-ups are slated to be delivered from the Shanghai yard in the first and second quarter of 2014 respectively.
Prospector Offshore Drilling has also secured an option to build three more jack-ups with Shanghai Waigaoqiao. The rig options are priced at the same turnkey shipyard price as the first two rigs and valid until 30 June, 30 September and 31 December 2012, respectively.
