Bremen, Bremerhaven H1 cargo volume up 16.5 percent to 40m tonnes

The total ocean freight of the twin ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven grew 16.5 percent on the year to over 40 tonnes in the first six months of 2011 thanks to increased car exports handled by Bremerhaven, reported Handelsblatt.

The cars export in Bremerhaven jumped by around 35 percent to almost 968,000 units.

Container traffic at the ports grew 25 percent in annual terms to around three million TEUs.
