Coal transshipment through Baltic Coal Terminal (Ventspils, Latvia) in January-July 2011 surged by 1.92 times from last year’s numbers, to 2 313 000 tons, the Company said.
In July, the volume of coal handled at the terminal increased as much as 2.2 times to 359 500 tons.
Baltic Coal Terminal is a joint venture CSJC MPO Kuzbass and Free Port of Ventspils.
In 2010, BCT’s coal throughput was about 2 million tons. The cargo transshipped at the terminal is exported primarily to the UK, Belgium, Spain and Morocco. The terminal’s indoor warehouse allows simultaneous storage of 210,000 tons of coal, (capacity - 6 m t/y). The two companies have invested in the first phase of the terminal EUR 80 million.
