Odessa port's cargo traffic up 3.2% to 14.4m tons

Cargo throughput of state-run Odessa Commercial Sea Port in the January-July 2011, rose 3.2 percent from a year earlier to 14 490 000 tons. Dry bulk increased particularly to 887 200 tons, the stevedore company said.  

Container traffic for the period surged by 32 percent to 248 080 TEUs. The seven-month volume of iron ore increased by 963 400 tons vs last year’s numbers, to1 815 000 tons.

There was an increase in volume of imported fruits (citrus) and raw sugar, to 249 000 tons (+70 000 tons) and 609 000 (+170 000 tons), accordingly.

State-owned Odessa Commercial Sea Port is a largest port of the Black Sea-Azov basin. The port encompasses 14 ha, 9-km waterfront and 54 berths to accommodate 13meter draft vessels. The port capacity is 21 million tons of dry cargo and 25 million tons of liquid bulk cargo a year. Container terminals can handle over 900 000 TEUs annually.

Passenger terminal is able to handle annually up to 4 million people and accommodate cruise ships up 300 m in length. Last year, Odessa port saw 72 arrivals of foreign-flagged cruise vessels.

In 2010, cargo throughput of OCSP shrank by 11.8% year-over-year to 24.7 million tons, container traffic totaled 351 600 TEUs.
