Arkhangelsk port throughput down 10.8 percent

Cargo traffic at the port of Arkhangelsk in the last seven months of the year fell 10.8 percent year-on-year, to 2 314 200 tons, the Port Authority statistics said.

In the reporting period, inbound cargo increased by 7.9 percent from a year earlier, to 354 200 tons, outbound cargo rose by 13.2 percent to 1 198 800 tons. Seven-month export volume of paper, paperboard and wood pulp declined by 2.9% to 46 700 tons, of coal - by 26.9% to 121 200 tons, exports of petroleum products surged by 44.2%, to 683 200 tons, the volume of timber cargo was down 2.4% to 289 900 tons. Costal traffic volume dropped by 36.9% to 761 200 tons.

In July, cargo turnover increased by 8.6% compared with July 2010, to 496 200 tons. Monthly volume of imported goods soared by 46.9% to 21 300 tons, while exports in July fell by 17% to 210100 tons, short sea traffic rose as much as 40% to 264 800 tons .

The year-round navigable Port of Arkhangelsk seaport is located in the delta of the Northern Dvina River flowing into the White Sea. Cargoes transported via the Northern Sea Route are passing through the port’s terminals. The stevedore companies operating at the port handle a broad range cargo: general, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers and heavy-lift cargo, suction and grab cargoes. The Arkhangelsk port capacity allows handling up to 4,5 million tons a year. Throughput of the port of Arkhangelsk in 2010 increased by 30.1% y-o-y to 4.5 million tons.
