Robust exports of almost 13 percent at the Port of Los Angeles in July took some of the sting out of a 5.8 percent fall in throughput compared to the same month last yearCargonews Asia reports. Total loaded import-export TEUs volumes rose 1.3 percent. When factoring in empty TEUs (-23 percent), overall container volumes slipped -5.8 percent compared to July 2010, which was an exceptionally strong month (27 percent higher than July 2009).
“Exports continue to remain robust, up 12.8 percent compared to last July. Given the exceptional early and strong 2010 peak season cargo surge, loaded volumes remain healthy,” a statement from the port said.
“The volatility of the global economy makes the remainder of the year difficult to predict.”
