Far Eastern Railroad (DVZD, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, RZD) in January-July 2011 boosted shipment of containers by 35% year-on-year, to 128 000 units, RZD said.
The volume includes more than 117 600 heavy containers, which is 42 percent more than a year earlier.
Overall, during the period approximately 2.2 million tons of cargo (a 42% increase) were loaded into containers at the Railroad’s stations. The average daily volume of container traffic since 2011 has exceeded 10.3 million tons (+42%). The average weight of a container was 17.1 tons (+5%).
Over 20 500 containers were loaded in July (a 16 percent growth), including 19 900 large containers (+30%). The average daily traffic volume exceeded 11 700 tons (+28%).
