Oil slick covering 4000 sqm was detected in the waters of the port of Kherson, on the Koshevaya river, the regional Emergencies agency said Tuesday.
“A slick of 40 to 1000 meters (according provisional data, covering up to one third of the visible harbor area) was discovered on August 16th,” the emergencies office of the regional administration said, Korrespondent.net reported.
A team of the city and regional emergency department and the State Ecological Inspection has moved to the scene.
There are no other details on the oil spill incident available.
Kherson sea port, founded in 1778, is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, 15 km from its mouth. The projected annual capacity of the port is 5 million tons of different cargoes. The port operates 17 gantry cranes, 6 floating cranes and 135 units of other handling equipment.
