Following the recovery in activity in the second quarter of 2011, especially in the APMT Algeciras and TTI Algeciras terminals, Container Traffic is also registering positive figures, with 1.543.181 Teus having been handled during the semester, 3.85% more than in H1 of last year. The month of June has contributed greatly to this evolution. In June container traffic shot to 332.484 units, reaching an all-time movements record. This figure is 46,6% higher than in June 2010, when containers were limited to 226.744 units.
Ro-ro traffic (lorries) using the Strait sea link (Algeciras-Ceuta and Algeciras-Tangier Med) has been on the rise since the beginning of the year. During this semester 120.505 lorries have used this service, which is an increase of 12,8%. These routes have benefited from a total cost reduction in logistic operations of 20%, a change that reinforces the competitiveness of a service that offers departures every hour from the early hours of the morning until night.
All of this translates into an increase in the number of ships entering port, which numbered 13.504 units (+3,5%) in the first 6 months of the year, of which 1.418 were container-carriers (+34%).
