Cargo handling at the terminals of Vanino Commercial Sea port" (Port Vanino) in January-July 2011 fell 7.8 percent from a year before, to 3 280 500 tons, the Company said.
In July, Port Vanino handled 542 500 tons of different cargoes, a 6.6% growth compared to the same period in 2010.
Over the last 2 months the port has reduced the lag from last year's performance by increasing shipments of coal, alumina and petroleum coke, the company statement said.
In the reporting period, exports shrank by 6.8 percent to 1 613 200 tons, including 558 800 tons of timber (-29.3%), 78 500 tons of nonferrous metals ( -19.6%) and 953 300 tons of coal (+15.1%).
Imports rose by 14.8 percent to 845 300 tons, including 728 400 tons of alumina (+1.3%) and 71 600 tons of petroleum coke (a 4.7 times surge).
Short sea traffic slumped 64.6 percent to105 800 tons, of which 59 400 tons of coal. Vanino-Kholmsk ferry service carried 716 200 tons of cargo (-9.6%).
From January to July, the company handled 650 vessels, including 339 ferries and 31 900 rail cars.
Container throughput for the period amounted to 4100 TEUs.

The port is a gateway for trade flows between Russia and Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, USA and other countries of the Asia Pacific Region. Vanino also handles imports shipped to the northern regions of Russia. Port Vanino operates at the terminals with waterfront of nearly 2.5 km. In 2010, cargo traffic at Port Vanino rose to about 6 million tons (+0.2% yoy).
