“Due to heavy congestion in Nhava Sheva, the quality of our service has deteriorated. In this context, we are compelled to implement a port congestion surcharge,” CMA CGM India said in a trade advisory.
The move follows similar surcharge announcements by other major ocean carriers, including Hapag-Lloyd and APL, operating regular container services to and from India’s largest container port.
Separately, CMA CGM announced a general rate increase on cargo shipped from India to West Africa. Effective Sept. 1, the increase will be $150 per 20-foot containers and $300 per 40-foot/high cube container.
