UASC to hike Europe-India freight rates

United Arab Shipping will apply a general rate increase on the eastbound trade from North Europe to the Indian Subcontinent and the Arabian Gulf, starting Sept. 15, the Journal of Commerce reported.

The planned increase on dry and refrigerated cargo will be $100 per 20-foot container and $150 per 40-foot container.

The Middle East-based carrier earlier raised its rates on the westbound trade from Asia to North Europe with a peak-season surcharge of $250 per TEU, which came into effect Aug. 15.

Meanwhile, Zim Integrated Shipping Services said it plans to impose a peak-season surcharge on cargo moving from Asia to Israel.  Effective Sept. 1, the surcharge will be $200 per TEU.
