MSC to launch New Zealand service

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) announced on Monday plans to start a new Oceania Express Service with New Zealand's Port of Tauranga, Seatrade Asia online reports. The new service is scheduled to commence in October. The port rotation will be Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Tauranga, Balboa, Long Beach and back to Melbourne.

Mark Godfrey, national operations director at MSC, said: “MSC has recognised the Port of Tauranga as a major New Zealand hub, and we plan to tranship cargo from six other New Zealand ports utilising our three other services currently operating in New Zealand (Capricorn, Kiwi and Pacific Island services).”

Mark Cairns, chief executive of Port of Tauranga, said the port is undertaking significant capital expenditure to upgrade the container terminal over the next few years.
