JSC "Peterburgtransnefteproduct (Trasnnefteproduct’s subsidiary, part of Transneft) plans to freeze the operation of a section of the “Krasny Bor-Sea Port" oil pipeline (St. Petersburg) from November 1st, Transneft said.
The Russian Federal Service for Ecological, Technical and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) has ordered to stop delivery of oil products through the pipeline section since a recent survey of the pipeline had revealed that the facility is in poor condition. Besides, the pipeline runs through residential area of St. Petersburg, and under major road arteries of the city.
The company says major overhaul and modernization of the facility is virtually impossible, which may pose a risk for the city. The pipeline built and commissioned in December 1971 has been beyond its service life.
