A statement from the Israeli shipping group said it is "excited to enter into this JV", which is expected to help Zim expand its business coverage in China from the east coast to the middle and west of China. The company intends to leverage the combined expertise of Zim Logistics Co., and Zim's international liner shipping business to provide intermodal rail-sea services from China to other parts of the world. During the first phase of construction, the joint venture aims to construct railway container terminals in Shanghai, Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqin, Wuhan, Xian, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Dalian, Harbin and Tianjin. The second phase of development will cover the seven cities of Zhengzhou, Lanzhou, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Urmqi, Beijing and Ningbo.
The type of services that China United International Rail Container Co. will initially provide, include schedule block train services under the administration China's Ministry of Railways, container handling, storage and repair, as well as customs declaration and logistics service in a bid to enhance the speed of rail freight transportation across China, a Zim statement said.
