Manganese ore exports from Port Hedland fell by 55pct MoM in September
According to Port Hedland Port Authority, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland decreased 55.1% MoM in September 2011 and were down by 34.5% YoY, totaling 106,100 tonnes, Steelguru reports.
According to the released information, manganese ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 47,250 tonnes in September 2011, decreasing by 61.8% YoY and down 80% as compared to August. In September 2011, manganese ore exports to China accounted for 44.5% of total manganese ore exports from Port Hedland as compared to 76.3% in September 2010.
Ukraine was the second biggest export destination for manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland in September, with shipments totaling 58,850 tonnes. According to the port authority, no manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland to Ukraine had been recorded in August this year, nor in September 2010.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
