Transneft halts oil supplies to China due to earthquake

Transneft suspended pumping oil through Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) pipeline to China because of the threat of new tremors, as warned by seismic monitoring services, Transneft said Friday.

According to Transneft’s spokesman Igor Dyomin a 5.9 magnitude quake in the Amur Region did not damage the pipeline, power supply has been restored.

Export Oil Terminal based in Kozmino bay in Primorsky Territory is the terminus of the ESPO pipeline. The crude oil is exported from the terminal to Asia-Pacific countries. The pipeline is still under construction. The oil is delivered by railway from Skovorodino in oil tanks to the marine terminal. The ESPO first phase capacity is 30 million tons a year, expandable to 50 million tons.
