APL handles 229,300 FEU Aug 27-Sep 23, up 5pc year on year
Singapore's APL, the container arm of Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), has disclosed that it handled 229,300 FEU from August 27 to September 23, up five per cent year on year but down 2.5 per cent from the previous four-week period, Shippingazette reported.
Average revenue per FEU was US$2,501, shrinking 2.3 per cent from $2,559 in the previous four-week period and indicating a 19 per cent slump from the same period of last year.
"The increase was mainly due to higher volumes on the intra-Asia trade lane. The decline in average in average revenue per FEU was mainly due to lower rates in the major trade lanes, particularly Asia-Europe and intra-Asia," said NOL, the carrier's parent.
Year to date, the container shipping volumes grew eight per cent while average revenue per FEU dropped nine per cent from the same period of 2010.
