Development of Shahid Rajaii basins will enable the container port located at the north of the Persian Gulf to effectively compete other ports of the neighboring countries, an official with Iran’s Ports and Shipping Organization (PSO) said, MNA reported.
In addition to the allocation of $410 mln for the development of Shahid Rajaii basin 2 and 3, the Economy Council has earmarked Rls.760 bln for development works to be carried out by the PSO in other ports of the nation, the Persian service of ISNA quoted Ali Jahandideh as saying on Wednesday.
The PSO holds a panoramic view of all the nation’s ports, he said asserting that the organization does not take special interest in a particular port. He added that all the investments should not be apportioned to a particular place.
Referring to the current developments on removing vessels sunk during the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) in the waters of Bandar Imam Khomeini – a port city located in the north of Persian Gulf - he said the PSO has launched three bids to that effect but it has not received a response from the possible bidders of the project yet. He maintained that the project should be carried out in the form of a joint venture comprising of both Iranian and foreign contractors.
