Shetland firm Highland Fuels plans to move its fuel bunkering tank from its current site at SBS Logistics' Greenhead base to the Gremista junction in Lerwick.he move comes as SBS step up security at Greenhead with the arrival of oil rig decommissioning work at the base. The tank has been at Greenhead for just over two years, where it is used by Highland Fuels' commercial account holders to fill up their vehicles. SBS now want to keep a tighter control on the amount of vehicles moving through the base as part of a new security regime. Lowrie Farmer, of Highland Fuels, said: "We need to move the tank because of traffic and security concerns in light of the decommissioning taking place at the base."Highland Fuels are pleased with the proposed move to a more high profile site closer to the centre of Lerwick, which should attract new customers.Lerwick Port Authority owns the old weigh bridge site where the tanks will be shifted if the plans go through. The two organisations held a meeting yesterday and Highland Fuels will now apply for planning permission to complete the move. The facility will consist of a large, stand alone, commercial diesel tank that will serve mainly as a truck stop, as fuel will not be available for retail to the general public. The fuel supplier has bought the latest technology available for the project, with card and pin number security to be used so that only those companies that have accounts can draw fuel from the tank.
