France leading container port Le Havre has launched the ($403m) second phase development of its Port 2000 container complex with the adoption by the port authority board of plans to build six more berths. The plans have still to be approved by the French government but the port hopes that the new berths will all come into service between September 2009 and July 2010. The port authority said that it had taken the decision to launch the new phase of development in response to demand from its major shipowner customers and on the basis of the success of the first few months of operation of the first terminal to come into operation at the complex, Terminal de France.
