HMM to raise rates on North America-Latin America service

Hyundai Merchant Marine plans a general rate increase effective April 15 for shipments from the U.S. and Canada to Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay, the Journal of Commerce reports.

The carrier said the increase is needed to achieve returns that meet shareholder requirements and justify continued investment in the trade.

The increase would be $320 per 20-foot dry container, $400 for 40-foot standard or high-cubes and $550 for 40-foot refrigerated boxes. For specialized equipment including flat racks and open-top containers, rates will increase by $320 per 20-footer and $400 per 40-footer for in-gauge shipments and $440 per 20-footer and $550 for 40-footer for out-of-gauge cargoes.

Hyundai said the increase will apply from all ports and inland points in the U.S. and Canada to all ports and points in Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay.
