Maersk launches Flagship US intermodal service

Maersk Line has announced  a new “Flagship” intermodal service for containerised freight moving from Asia to Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Memphis and Ohio, IFW reports.

BNSF Railway will serve as the rail provider for the Flagship service, using dedicated, non-stop trains arriving at an agreed time in each destination.

Flagship trains will bypass connecting points along the route to provide “unmatched service velocity”, Maersk said in a statement, adding that Flagship would provide a 95% on-time delivery rate.

Investments by Maersk Line and BNSF over the past several years have helped develop an expanded rail network, state-of-the-art intermodal facilities and increased loading capabilities at ports, Maersk officials said.

The five US destinations represent Flagship’s initial launch, but Maersk said the service could be expanded to other markets in the future.

Steve Branscum, BNSF VP, said:?“We look forward to delivering the best on-time performance levels and service reliability to help shippers achieve superior supply chain performance.”
