Three icebreakers escort 36 cargo ships in Azov Sea

A combined convoy merchant ships is led by three Rosmorport’s diesel-electric icebreakers in the Sea of Azov. The Kapitan Chudinov, the Kapitan Moshkin and the Kapitan Krutov are escorting a caravan of 36 ships. The Kapitan Demidov was guiding 11 Temryuk port-bound ships, which could not enter the port due to unfavorable weather conditions. Meanwhile, the MV St. Nicholas departed from the port of Temryuk without icebreaker assistance and is now heading for to the Kerch Strait, the Azov Ice Ops Headquarters said.


As of 05:00 pm, March 18, there were 49 cargo ships in the Sea of Azov, 48 of them were moving, 1 was damaged, 88 vessels (ice-classed -24) were ready to depart from the Azov Sea ports. In the Black Sea there were 56 ships (12 with ice-class hulls) – to pass through the Kerch Strait.
