BAE San Francisco secures contract for renovation of USNS Alan Shepard

BAE Systems San Francisco Ship Repair, San Francisco, Calif., is being awarded a $12,257,163 firm-fixed-price contract for a 55-calendar day regular overhaul and dry-docking of Military Sealift Command's dry cargo/ammunition ship USNS Alan Shepard, MarineLink reported.

Some of the major work items include dry-docking and undocking the ship, repairing interior decks, structural repairs, overhauling the main diesel generators, and inspecting and refurbishing the propeller shaft and stern tube.  The ship's primary mission is to provide fuel, ammunition, and dry and refrigerated stores to support Navy ships at sea, enabling them to remain underway for extended periods.  This contract includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $14,321,064.  Work will be performed in San Francisco, Calif., and is expected to be completed by May 28.  Contract funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  This contract was competitively procured, with one offer received.
