Rickmers and TOTE join World Shipping Council

Rickmers-Linie and TOTE have joined the World Shipping Council as the newest members of the Washington-based maritime association, Journal of Commerce reports. With the addition of these two new members, the WSC now includes 29 shipping lines that together transport more than 90 percent of international containerized trade.

The WSC’s goal is to provide a coordinated voice for the liner shipping industry in its work with policymakers and other industry groups interested in international transportation.

In February, Rickmers-Linie, the breakbulk and heavy-lift arm of the Hamburg-based Rickmers Group, appointed Ron Widdows as its new CEO, and formerly the CEO of Neptune Orient Lines and remains chairman of the WSC.

Through its maritime companies, Totem Ocean Trailer Express and Sea Star Line, TOTE provides regular services on dedicated routes between the Port of Anchorage and the Port of Tacoma; Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Jacksonville and Port Everglades.
