Heijmans signs contract with APM Terminals Rotterdam

On Thursday afternoon, 29 March 2012, Heijmans and APM Terminals Rotterdam representatives signed the 'APMTR Pavement Rehabilitation' contract, Reuters reports. The contract concerns the replacement of the existing pavement/brick pavement with durable concrete pavement. The contract is valued at approximately EUR 22 million.

APM Terminals' request for proposals included a number of key criteria:
- Keep the area open for business as usual during construction;
- Manage the risks associated with the process;
- Safety;
- A life cycle approach, including a 30-year maintenance period.

Heijmans' bid was the preferred proposal on the basis of the solution's robustness - a low maintenance concrete surface of approximately 300,000 m2 - smart construction phasing and a sharp eye for safety. The construction work on the First Maasvlakte is due to start in April 2012 and is to be completed in November 2013.

The contract fits in with Heijmans' goal of playing a greater role in the industrial and logistics sector. Heijmans wants to provide added value in this regard by offering integral solutions for the entire life span based on the Total Cost of Ownership. The qualitative tender resulted from a sharp analysis of the customer's request and included an integrated approach on the part of Heijmans with contributions from a large number of Heijmans Roads disciplines.
